Nurturing Careers

Milk & Honey was set up determined to be a people first agency, creating a happy and healthy place to work. Where passion and creativity are prized. Where clients are celebrated. One where there is time to think, to go the extra mile. A land of opportunity. Hence the name!

From our culture of bravery, respect and collaboration to our unique working practices and industry-leading benefits package, we want to make this an inclusive and inspiring place to work.

We are the only agency to hold accreditations from PRCA Chartered Management Standard for quality best practice; B Corporation for our ethical, environmental and social practices; and Investors in People for outstanding leadership.

15 to 50

We want to open people’s eyes to what a career in PR could look like. So, since inception we have worked with local schools to offer work-placements for 15 year old students. We have also worked with universities across the country to offer placement years and internships. We’re delighted to report that we have a 100% conversion rate for our interns.

We welcome different ideas and backgrounds and are proud to have a number of brilliant team members who have come to us from other careers – writers, actors and even bakers. We look for attitude aligned to our values. We can teach the technical side. These diverse backgrounds and skills mean we are all learning, from each other, every day.

Inside the Hive

Lizzie Elkin

From intern to senior executive in 18 months, I’ve seen first hand how dedicated the team is to growing its people and nurturing careers. Our co-ownership model has put power into the hands of the team, and as President of the Team Council, I’m proud to be supporting our new chapter in a leadership role.

Lewis Oakley
Milk & Honey PR has encouraged me to be myself and build confidence in my work. I always thought I had to change to succeed but by teaching me communication styles I was able to grow in my way.
Leaning into strengths I did not know
I had.

Living Wage Employer badge

Milk & Honey's head office is based in London, a region where nearly a fifth of all jobs (19%) pay less than the real Living Wage - around 785,000 jobs. Despite this, Milk & Honey has committed to pay the real Living Wage and deliver a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.

We are delighted to part of a movement of thousands of organisations, businesses and people, across the UK, who believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay. Together we can continue to ensure everyone can earn enough to live on.

Diversity and inclusion is Milk & Honey’s strength. It is who we are.

Currently, 15% of our people are LGBTQ+, 27% are from BAME communities, there is no gender pay gap, not everyone has a degree level qualification and we have a 100% female board. It’s a start – but just a start. We want to move the needle, not just in the Hive, but across a PR sector that still struggles with diversity.

Milk & Honey begins with perspectives of age, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, gender, neuro diversity and disability. We are committed to constant improvement — both in what we recognise as diversity and its representation in our workforce and the wider industry. Our aim is to reflect the breath-taking plurality of our clients and the communities we serve.

We are an agency that achieves as well as aspires; an agency that believes diversity and inclusion is about people — not just percentages.

Externally we commit to reach 250 diverse individuals and support their success in PR by 2025.
We aim to engage at least 50 diverse individuals a year and in 2021 we will institute:

Launch the Milk & Honey schools and university programme where volunteers reach out to their former places of learning to identify, encourage and support 10 diverse individuals to enter the industry.

Engage inner city schools and provide support to 10 diverse individuals, through a partnership with PR professional bodies.

Launch the Milk & Honey ‘Take a Seat’ webinar programme, with insights into a career in PR and practical advice on how to begin the journey — for 20 diverse individuals.

Partner with PR professional bodies to provide mentors to three diverse individuals as they begin their careers in PR.

Expand Milk & Honey’s already successful intern programme to offer targeted opportunities for two diverse individuals

Establish new networks in partnership with leading diversity and inclusion organisations and PR professional bodies to reach five diverse individuals.

Our internal commitments are always reviewed and tested, so that we:

  • Continually monitor diversity and inclusion — always seeking to improve. Using LGBTQ+, BAME and neuro-diversity metrics, we currently celebrate 26% of our workforce as diverse and will work to increase this to 30% by 2022.
  • Continually expand the metrics used to measure diversity beyond current industry benchmarks. We do this through partnerships with external inclusion and diversity partners who bring new perspectives to constantly refresh and expand our thinking.
  • In 2021 we will introduce the highest recruitment standards, such as B-Corp scoring, to ensure we attract diversity of talent.
  • Advertise roles across general (as well as specialist) channels to ensure that we diversify our talent acquisition beyond existing PR networks.
  • Track promotions by ethnicity, sexuality, neurodiversity, age and disability to measure our work to further careers
